1. Oil is crucial to the performance of the 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel. Always check the oil quality and oil level before proceeding with any driveability diagnosis.
2. On older EEC IV systems, always allow 10 seconds between ignition key cycles before running a quick test, or you may not be able to initiate output of fault codes from the PCM.
3. You can use the downstream hose on a DPFE sensor as a quick exhaust system tap to check for an exhaust restriction.
4. Using a water spray mist bottle to moisten spark plug wires can assist in finding secondary insulation leakage.
5. Faulty fuel pressure regulators may not be evident for several minutes after engine start-up.
